Stewardship Adventure Camp
The St. Johnsbury Academy Field Semester Program and St. J Rec are pleased to announce a new program geared to area students entering grades 6 through Grade 9. On Monday our campers will receive an introduction to the Field Semester Program and a basic overview of the concept of land use stewardship. We are offering two sessions of this awesome camp, one centered on rock climbing and the other on mountain biking. On the Tuesday and Wednesday of each week, we will take part in the adventure activities. You DO NOT need to be an experienced rock climber or biker to participate, but you DO need to be in decent physical shape and WANT to be at camp as well as understand that in addition to partaking in recreational activities we will be conducting service projects. On Thursdays, we will take part in a mystery adventure/ project.
Students will need to be prepared to be outside every day in all types of weather.
Closed toe footwear is required. No sandals or flip-flops. (Although you can pack them for lake trips)
Pack a lunch, bathing suit, water bottle, and snacks every day
As we get closer to the start of camp, we will email a specific itinerary and suggested gear/ clothing list.
The program will be overseen by Director of Recreational Programs Joe Fox and our newest staff member Bryna McCarty, whom we are pleased to welcome to our adventure programming! Joe is a certified Wilderness First Responder and AMGA Indoor Climbing Wall Instructor, with 15+ years experience leading camps and outdoor programs. Bryna is a lifelong outdoorswoman and a former member of the US Ski Team, having spent 6 years on the World Cup circuit. She most recently worked at Cannon Mountain coaching in the Franconia Ski Club and had previously worked at Burke Mountain Academy for over 6 years as a ski coach helping develop elite young athletes. She has extensive experience as a world traveller and is excited to be a part of our program!
Rock climbing will be overseen by staff at North Country Climbing center in Lisbon, NH. You won’t want to miss this awesome program!
